The following funding opportunities are now open. They are open to anyone in the UK or US community. Previous activity within BIO-Carbon is not required. See links for full details.
Update 20/4/26: The following important information was missing from the original advertisement:
BIO-Carbon is focussed on processes that have global impacts on the storage of carbon by marine life, and in the deep ocean beyond the continental shelf where water depths are greater than 1000m. The calls are being updated to include this.
Please note that a Notification of Intent must be submitted by 8 May 2026 at 4:00pm UK time. There is no flexibility in this and a proposal will be rejected if one is not submitted.
Full application deadline: 14 July 2026
Biological influence on ocean carbon: novel modelling approaches
Apply for funding for a project to improve representation of biological processes in carbon storage models. It must be led by a UK researcher. It is strongly encouraged for projects to include US team members who will be supported by NASA through this joint funding call. The project lead must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for NERC funding.
Multiple model assessment of biological influence on ocean carbon
Apply for funding for a project comparing and improving biological carbon storage in multiple global models. It must be led by a UK researcher. It is strongly encouraged for projects to include US team members who will be supported by NASA through this joint funding call. The project lead must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for NERC funding.
Please find a list of datasets already being created by BIO-Carbon projects here This also provides contacts for enquiries about those datasets as not all are yet publicly available. All EXPORTS data are freely available on the SeaBASS website.
